from what i recall liverpool are the only team who were given a spot in the next years competion for cl cos they won the trophy. Off the top of my head i can think of 2 other teams who have won the cup but did not get a bye into the next seasons competion and could not therefore defend the title;)

competition rules stated that current cup holders automatically get a spot, its been changed within the last year. thats what the big debate was about when liverpool did win it, it was the last year the rule was in place so was it applicable for the champions of that year

And steff by default i mean roma did not finish in italys allocated champions league spots, they ended up there because teams had points deducted were disqualified from the champions league and even got relegated due to corruption.

all in all they did well for a team that dident deserve to be there but that was obvious when man utd kicked them all over the place
