I've recently discovered alot of information regarding Splenda ie: Sucralose.
Alot of things we eat have sucralose in it, diet soda, most things that say "sugar free", even some vitamins and toothpastes!

I'll list a few links here for any of you who use this stuff. I was shocked by this information and threw my bag of splenda away

no doesn't make you wonder. RC Cola was just the first ones to do it. It's not a lower income drink. II'll admit I don't even know where to buy it around here. Maybe in Wal-Mart? Kinda like we don't have Sun Drop around where I live either.

There was a huge back lash when nutra-sweet came out too in the late 80's. Lab tests showed that it caused brain cancer in lab rats.

What the consumer public didn't understand that the amount of nutra-sweet required to (possibly) cause cancer was something ridiculous like 6 pounds per day your entire life.

Any chemical you choose to put in your body has it's possible side-effects. You'll sooner die from hydrogenated butter clogging your arteries, than splenda.

Yea well these studies are showing that it takes alot less than 6 pounds a day to cause problems. It's saying consistent use, can cause alot of side effects. I never said anything about it Killing you, or causing cancer, but splenda being used regularly can cause fatigue, headaches, joint achiness, etc.. Aspartame is just as bad.

P.s. Stay away from hydrogenated oils!

What do we expect when these things are syntetically reconstructed, of course they are gonna be dangerous.

wtf splenda sounds totally unappealing when compared to pesticides. lets not forget that real sugar will do a number on the human body too. i personally know of several people that have died from sugar complications. i still drink green tea with honey but have cut my junk food and sugar(candy) intake to approximately less than 5 hershey bars in the past 6 months. goddamn life sucks without chocolate. crispix and wheaties are among the lowest sugar per serving cereals.there were no soft drinks in schools when i went we had to bring our own or drink water.

RC Cola is not sold anywhere around Boston.....

15-20 years ago RC Cola it was sold in every major grocery store in WA. Now the only place I know where to find it is in WinCo Foods which is a grocery store that is similar that works similarly to Wal-Mart in that its pandering to the poor by selling everything a little cheaper by paying employees less because they don't employ unionized workers. Or just plain offering the cheapest crap that everyone's production line creates.

Anyways, I use a little bit of Splenda. I prefer it when I drink Iced Tea (JJ's fav) as I think it tastes better than real sugar or aspartame crap like Sweet & Low of Equal. I use real sugar for most other things but then again I rarely use sugar period.

I can't help but laugh though because about 9 months ago I had a convo with Kitty about how I was waiting on a report that stating that Splenda is really bad for you. No foods of food like products that have been processed in anyway are good for us. That's why I've started buying only organic milk for about that last year and pick up organically grown fruits and veggies when offered in the local grocery stores (as I'm too lazy to make a 2nd trip to a store if neccessary)

Just to let you know miss loverly Resa none of this sites that you posted are science based. Two of the four refer to one source which is Dr. Mercola, The other two are each some person's testimony, not in fact scientific studies.

I would ask a trusted physician to clarify the situation, try ebscohost (you have to subscribe), or google scholarly. These sources have to be reveiwed and held accountable according to laws and/or school regulations.

I'm not saying you are wrong I'm just saying that I personally would be more likely to believe somehthing from a .edu or an .htm or .pdf from a science journal

:D Hope that its not true for all the splenda/aspartame lovers!!

(personally i think it tastes gross)

I know kitten, good point. But there's enough testimony regarding the effects of artificial sweeteners, including splenda, that I choose to stop using it. And realistically, when you synthetically reconstruct something you eat, it's easy to believe the toxicity level increases.

It would probably be impossible to show what short-term exposure does. And the longterm or cumulative effects pretty much don't show up until long after a product is approved.

one doctor said

"Splenda's promise is that you need neither moderation nor control for a healthy life. You no longer have to deny yourself anything sweet - you can act immoderately and lose control, but won't have to bear the effects of eating pounds of sugar. We want someone else to take responsibility for our bodies - instead of cutting back on sweets, we want the sweetness without the nutrition - the pleasure without the natural consequences."

And in that quest, we're willing to make the trade off, and oftentimes we ignore the possible side effects. I posted this information about splenda, not stated as absolute fact, but for added info so a person can possibly make a more educated decision on whether to use it or not. Hence: rather than posting bits and pieces of the articles, I simply posted the links.

Personally, i haven't used splenda in almost a week, I just drink my tea without sugar now  which is the only time I used splenda neways, but I drink lots of tea so I was consuming about a cup of splenda every 2 to 3 days.

Thanks for the input Kitten :orign: :ice: << not sugar free ice cream either! :w00t2:
