What's your ideas on which vitamins are good to take? :dunno:
Should your vitamins be any specific brand, or water soluable etc...
I take Vitamin complex B , Mega Fish oil, Woman's multi and I drink Xango juice.
Sometimes I take Vitamin C if I feel im not getting enough through fruits during the winter especially since fruits are out of season.

Awww that is a horrible ailment.
John had it right before he moved here, he was very sick with it. It lasted several weeks and left him weak and tired for many more weeks.

It lasted a year and a half for me :(
anyways on the topic of vitamins, apparantly, you're not supposed to take them unless you specifically don't get enough of that certain vitamin, not sure with that

there are two kinds of vitamins, water and fat soluble, itīs ok to take water soluble cuase you get rid of the excess when you pee, but the fat soluble ones go directly to your liver, and itīs not so easy for your body to process them. and you could get intoxicated or get change in your eye/skin color for example.

If you are really want a good answer, ask Metal Fan. He is touched on the topic before, and I thought that he explained it as well as anyone.

CFH was right on the mark. You can actually die from taking too much of an fat soluble vitamin. I just take a multi-vitamin mostly because with doing high intensity workouts I want to make sure I'm covered. I also take a few other 'supplements' 2 aspirins a day as a blood thinner, Niacin to help control my cholesterol and a CLA.

Re-reading the original question:
I figured she wanted some direction in some vitamins to take. I.E. Vitamin C and E for immune system, Vitamen D to help absorb Calcium, antioxidents for muscle repari, folic acid in case you are pregnent, etc
Also, I would point out that I take the generic drugs becuase the ingredients are the same, and why spend the extra money (which can be quite high).
Finally, I would suggest that you always take your vitamins with a meal. It inceases digestion time, therefore you can absorb it more readily.
But I see other people fearful of fat soluable, so I look for a list of don't with vitamins (http://www.ehow.com/how_2356_know-recommended-dietary.html):
Taking a high-potency multivitamin/mineral complex is the easiest way to supplement.
B vitamins are best taken together as a full B complex, unless you have a health problem that warrants extra dosages of a single one.
Vitamin C may be taken along with a multivitamin for a larger dose.
Take vitamin supplements with meals.
Doses of over 3,000 mg of vitamin C may cause diarrhea in some people, and very high doses may interfere with results from certain medical tests.
The fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K can be toxic when consumed in large doses over a prolonged period of time.
Taking 100,000 to 200,000 IU of vitamin A for six to eight months can be toxic.
Vitamin D can be toxic at doses of 1,000 to 3,000 IU.
At doses of 1,800 IU, vitamin E may interfere with blood clotting.
Menadione, a form of vitamin K (K3), may produce a type of anemia at large doses.
Use caution if taking B3 doses higher than 1,000 mg.
B5 causes diarrhea if more than 1,000 mg is taken.
B6 may have some side effects in doses over 500 mg.
Paba-paraaminobenzoic acid may be toxic at more than 12,000 mg per day.

The only reasons that people should take vitamins are:
A: They are deficient in producing a certain vitamin or substance that is necessary
B: They have HORRIBLE diet habits.
Otherwise vitamins are useless because they are just excess to your daily diet.

I think everyone should have at least a multivitamin. Our diets are not as good as our grandparents when US were a agriculture society (agreeing with Hoos second point). When was the last time you had jarred green bean or turnips.
Which brings me to another point. Most of the foods today are so highly processed for convience that they have no nutriational value. If the food isn't flashed frozen (or fresh obviously), then there are no vit. to absorb.
With Hoo's first point: As we age, we are producing less and less stuff, which just means that we need to supplement a bit as we get older. (expectally those Daqs who are in their nursing home).
Isn't it amazing to think that if you had green tea, the antioxidents are a neuroprotectant for alzheimers and parkinson's disease. Or that a little extra Choline in the diet during pregnacy reduces the chances of Autism.

Oh yeah I forgot pregnant women. They can be C: But if you eat healthy enough (good to have a aspiring dietitian around ;)) You don't need them.

I think anybody that is constantly doing above and beyond what a normal person does like working out etc should take a vitamin also.

Best too take zinc, especially during cold and flu season as it helps keep your immune system up. Women should take calcium daily as well. A good womens multi vitamin also and fish oil promotes a healthy heart and kickstarts your metabolism. 1000 mg of vitamin c above and beyond daily food intake vit c is recommended as well.
