Give Shanna a break, She was merely stating or referencing to the history of blacks and slavery and how still many Blacks today are discriminated against. So it is only natural when one's race is treated this way ( and I am betting she herself had situations where she was untreated unfairly due to race) to say "My People".

In regards to equality...

I think we all would love to have that as a concept but we all know that doesn't happen or will ever happen in the real world. It is very clear we are not all equal in many areas or treated the same. Racism is within societies for various reasons, it's just most people won't admit it socially and maybe even to themself. I believe everyone is a racist to some extent but won't admit it. It's just the level of racism one has to determine the seriousness of it.
