OK.. So we got the Setanta Sports Network (http://na.setanta.tv/na_index.htm) on Dish now so I've been watching alot of English Soccer lately but being a complete Noob to how you do things there I thought I would post my stupid questions here so you Brits can set me straight.

So question #1:

What is the difference between Premiere League and Championship League?

Are there differing tiers similar to how Baseball is done here? Like we have the Major League Baseball Teams and they have minor league farm teams where they can call players up, or send them down.

This was the game I was watching yesterday: Stoke City v Charlton Athletic

yes dave they main leagues are set up like this :

Premier League (Top Divison)
Championship
League one
League Two
Blue Square League (bottom divison)

now the Blue square league is made up of both professional and semi-professional teams and all the subsequent leagues below that are all considered an amateur level, ie most of the players do so on a part time basis.

now the game you watched yesterday was a Championship game and infact Charlton Athletic were actually relagated from the Premier League just this last season.

hope this helps somewhat

*thumbs up* thanx Si.. So a Team can actually be bumped down from one league to the next thats interesting.

so my next question is are any of the lower leagues affiliated with an upper league or do they just shop for players from these leagues, regardless of team?

some are affliated with bigger clubs, and that means that the bigger club can send youth players to the smaler club for match practice in return the smaller clubs get money and decent young players. this also happens with forign clubs, e.g. big ernglish club and small belgium club.
but most transfers are just shoped regardless of the teams or league.

generally it is 3 teams up, 3 teams down each season

the bottom 3 get relegated, whilst in promotion the top 2 get automatic promotion then the teams placed 3/4/5/6 go into a play off senario for the final promotion spot.

in the premier league obviously you dont get promoted from that being the top league but the top teams fight for qualification to european cup competitions aswell as being league champions of course.

Maybe it's because I'm drunk that I'm interpreting it this way but... 3 or 4 teams from each league get promoted/relegated (top 4 and bottom 4) so teams go up and down. The higher the league the more revenue from TV and shite the team will get - if that's what you meant by affiliated.

College Football??? YAWN

I am excited for the NFL to start but hopefully I'll still catch a Premiere league game from time to time. I watched Chelsea V Portsmouth today. I came in right as Drogba was taking the kick to the Cohones.. Man thats a part of soccer I'm not sure I could do.

OK.. time to explain the points system to me..

3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and none for a loss

and minus 15 points if you go bankrupt, have10 points deducted so you definitely get relegated from the championship (which would have happened anyway :() then have you chairman buy the club back against the football league rules thus incurring the afore mentioned deduction of 15 points at the start of the new season in league 1. I do hope thats clear to you Dave???!!!! :run:

p.s. leeds for the win - 4 games, 4 wins = minus 3 points and the best goal difference in the league :P

Thanx guys.. I was watching a FLC (look at me I'm using acronyms now) match today and man these two guys hit heads so hard, one got his head split open and the other was knocked out cold. It was Blackpool V. Hull City

"The game was marred however by what looked to be a serious injury to Hull City debutant Caleb Folan following a clash of heads with Kaspars Gorkss. "

dave
10th September 2007, 12:11 PM
a qpr player got in a bad tackle last season and walked off and tried to play on, he went off after another 5 mins, turns out he broke his leg, on the weekend i read the program and they interviewd him and it said "i tried to walk it off cause i dident wanna show the other team i was weak"

the dude broke his leg and walked off lol

Well its still a mystery wrapped in an enigma LOL I can spot the easy offsides but sometimes I'm left scratching my head.

If it's "offside" but it isn't called offside and the commentator doesn't call the ref a fud then the guy that's "offside" wasn't interfereing with play and thus deemed not offside.

That is why players should be made to take an IQ test and if it's below 20 they don't get to play because come on it ain't that difficult to comprehend.

*DAMN*
I lost the Setanta network and I would have to pay and extra $15 a month to get it. Don't think I can pass that one by the missus..

Alternatively... WWW.MyP2P.EU

It doesn't give you television quality but it is free... ;) And it's not just UK football.

I'm gonna give that a shot! The good news is Fox Soccer is on the preview channels.. Its gunny cause I went to get a cost and it says 'you can upgrade to this channel w/o having to contact us'. So I go through the menu to see how much and it says 'You can't get this channel without upgrading your package'. Why show a channel on the preview channel you can't order on its own?

*sigh* Ya know I may not be an expert on all forms of Offsides but I can spot the easy ones.. Freaking line Judge blew two calls where he didn't call offsides and it cost my son's team a goal both times.

He or a team mate must have been inter fereing with play by obstructing an opponent, gaining an advantage from being in an offside position etc
