"American Suicide" a speech by Former Colorado Governor Richard Lamm-Truth!

Summary of the eRumor:
A speech by former Colorado Governor Richard Lamm on how multiculturalism can affect America.

The Truth:
The speech was given by Governor Lamm at the 2004
Immigration-Overpopulation Conference in Washington, D.C.

He titled it "A Plan to Destroy America."

The eRumor refers to author Victor David Hanson (not Hansen). His book is Mexifornia: A State of Becoming.
A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:

If you read anything today, read this.

AMERICAN SUICIDE
Wherever you stand, please take the time to read this; it ought to scare the pants off you!

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado (Democrat). In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Recently there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of America's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Davis Hansen talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"

"Here is how they do it," Lamm said: "First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country." History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: "The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy." Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficult times with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."

Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. Make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. Make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.

Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together." Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would! Replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other- that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common Language and literature; and they worshipped the same Gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" -- from many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'Pluribus' instead of the 'Unum,' we will balkanize America assuredly as Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bi-lingual/bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book "Mexifornia." His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."

Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path especially The American Dream. If you care for and love our country as I do, take the time to pass this on just as I did for you.

NOTHING is exactly what will happen if you don't!

[Author of the book 'Mexifornia' is Victor Davis Hanson]

Very interesting that, thanks for that.

Although i think all the issues raised were valid, and might well be true of history in the past... isn't the point of history that we learn from our mistakes? thus prevent them from happening in the future?

Cultural diversity I know all too well, I live in London and sometimes i do feel like the only englishman, but by no means do i think thats ruining my country, couldn't these views be considered borderline racist? One observation i've always made of the Americans in general (and i know i'm being stereotypical) - is that you are a very Patriotic bunch..... very patriotic. Now thats not necessarily a bad thing, but when that patroism breeds ignorance and intolerance, in my honest opinion, i think that may be the ultimate "American suicide".

I do however, understand what he's saying, but I also think that perhaps these opinions are a bit old fashioned, and don't necessarily reflect modern day... especially not modern day America

Jay~

Thank you for your input. I value your opinion. I don't know if I can agree that the "point" to history is that we not repeat our mistakes. I believe that it should be the ultimate goal in studying it though. I think I would feel better if I thought I was a part of a culture that COULD learn from its mistakes.

I do agree that some of his ideas may seem far fetched, but he made points worth considering, especially when faced with the diversity that divides us as groups or as individuals. We are supposed to be considered one nation, not many. Individual states are not as diversified as the smaller countries of say Europe. Although we are many states with many peoples amongst them, our common "country" shares the same ruler, the same "federal" laws (state laws do exist that sometimes differ or define further those determined at the federal level), and the same language (not counting family-related ones).

I think the part of what he said that hit home for me was the part regarding societies being bilingual. "It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual." I never separated the two before reading this, and oddly enough it made sense to me. In one country (keeping in mind the size of America) it would be difficult if we could not all communicate with one another. I understand how it could look as if this is an intolerance, but upon further examination you may find that his views are actually more literally translated as a coming together of the minds. We cannot expect to be one nation if we want each country to be individually represented here. It's not as if we are creating a country of states where each one represents another country in another part of the world.

"United We Stand, Divided We Fall."

I agree actually, the most prominent part i read was the "It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual." - it instantly got me thinking about Canada. Is it Montreal a bad place to live because of the billingual society? - I don't know because i havent visited yet, but I don't doubt that it must take away some unity.

Over here in the uk, immigration is quite often an issue that appears in the headlines of tabloids and broadsheets alike... With the influx of more and more people as countries are becoming part of the EU, such as Poland, Romania etc. offering cheap labour etc. Many of the blue collar society are starting to complain about "foreigners stealing our jobs" - But without going off track too much, this is manifesting a stale atmosphere between some british people (most commonly middle class / low income earners / Sun readers (http://www.thesun.co.uk/) - hehe) and our new neighbours.

As a result, political parties such as the BNP (http://www.bnp.org.uk/) are getting an increasing number of the votes as voters are choosing them out of rebellion. Not necessarily because they agree with all of their policies (i'm not sure if you have heard of the BNP (http://www.bnp.org.uk/), but they have been linked with institutional racism and general policies include wanting to keep britain for the "british") - This i personally see as being extremely detrimental for future generations. This party and their people are bad, simple as that, but often foreign policy amongst any of the other political parties are very similar, and in general embrace immigration in different ways (and rightfully so, our economy here has never been so strong), i guess some voters feel they are left with no alternative.

Never the less, that speech was well executed and delivered, however, i feel if it were read/spoken to the wrong type of person, i think it has real potential for its real objective to be missed, and extremist opinions may prosper instead.

this instantly got me thinking about Switzerland - where there are 4 official languages. French in the west and south west, German in the North and central areas, Italian in the south East and Romanisch in the East. This may be an exception to this rule.

I havent lived in Switzerland for 6 years (Asgard, amongst others will know much better) but whilst i remember there being some underlying bad feeling towards the Turks that had come to Switzerland via Germany (because of the "theyre taking our jobs" mentality that Jay mentioned), the general unity of the country seemed very strong to me.

god i miss that place.................

Interesting article indeed, has some very solid points.
The only problem or potential crisis is the methods perse mentioned to resolve.
But it is no secret over population via immigration, ( nevermind illegal immigration) is very dangerous.
Anyone who cannot see that obvious has a lack of intellectual issues when it comes to society function/social systems.

We all know the majority of immigration within North America (legal or not) does not speak muchless care to learn english.
Since cities are divided already into cultural districts based upon that heritage, all these people
can easily go there and can exist with ease without ever having to learn the language muchless respect that Country ways and laws.
It becomes to the point of internal mutiny accepted by government to destroy society strangely enough.

It is very frustrating for many people to go into any given store etc, and the people
running it doesn't even speak the COUNTRY OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. It's just ridicolous.
Why laws are not made or enforced this simple basic thing is absurd.
Something wrong with that picture when newbies call the shots.

This is why the USA and Canada and England (and so many other Countries where the official language is english) will eventually collapse because the official language is becoming a minority and creating social unrest and chaos.

This is why when you allow cultural diversity WITHOUT STRINGS ATTACHED,
you're going to create havoc and hatred /racism and race wars. It is unavoidable.
Why and how the Government don't see that ( or they do but don't care) is beyond me.
Tolerance ( for the most part) is a beautifull concept but it is pipedream, in reality it doesn't exist.

In my opinion, I personally do not endorse any multi languages outside the home.
One should respect and abide by that Country official language, no and's, if's or butt's.

I would just like to hit on 2 points Uganja made though...
Not meant as an attack just making some clarifications and insights.

Cultural diversity I know all too well, I live in London and sometimes i do feel like the only englishman, but by no means do i think thats ruining my country, couldn't these views be considered borderline racist?

London isn't even english anymore, it's been taken over by Muslims and their culture/ heritage.
Soon enough London will end up becoming a slave to their system.
We both know there is also a lot of fundamentalists ( moreso then any other non Arab state) and continue to breed
frantically right under your noses by blind acceptance of multiculturalism...
Soon enough you wn't be able to fight fundamental terrorism at all, out numbered.

I don't want to give an impression I am against Muslims, I am just using that in relation to London.
The ideology applies to all people who don't speak ( or care or will) the official langauge of any given Country.
It's not about racism it's about simple logic of NUMBERS as any majority creates and re-defines the social perimeter/system and laws.
One becomes a second class citizen in their own Country and there is severe reprocussions from that.
You should be concerned, because though it may not be a serious threat now it will be soon enough and it will be too late then.

England in the end, will end up losing your own Country culture and heritage by being wiped out
through oddly enough the freedom of multiculturism and immigration via DEMOCRACY.
Mark my words!

Trust an english Canadian who was born in Quebec ( In Montreal ) till I was 19 years old, it never worked and never will.

The biggest myth about Canada is how we present ourselves globally.
Our little happy peace loving nation of multiculturalism and bilingualism is a fraud.
In Canada, the 2 official languages don't work ( never will) because it did create division and animosity.

In Quebec, the heated rivalry of french vs english always existed by most.
If you were english living there, you were considered and treated as a second class citizen.
All signs are in french and if english was seen it was reported to government factions to investigate.
It is and still is a Nazi ideal french system that will do anything to preserve it.
If you speak english outside the downtown area of Montreal you would get no service or grudgly so.

This is why since 1970 up to now, the majority (85%) of english speaking Canadians in Quebec went to Ontario or Western Canada.
If bilingualism worked, the majority of english wouldn't of bolted from Quebec.
If bilingualism worked, the whole MANTRA of 2 official languages would be enforced in Quebec and not a farce.

Wow indeed! Talk about the mixes of DNA lol.
I'm amazed he considered himself French Canadian.
A good portion of French people in Quebec consider themselves Quebecors within their own Country,
rather than a Province within Canada muchless Canadian.

Consider yourself lucky to escape! :hehe:
