Something quick that isn't "FAST Food".

Was thinking of various things I have done to modify certain foods to make them more appealing to my kids, or to make them more palatable for myself or my husband. It's funny how you can change things by adding, deleting, or altering an ingredient or two.

Share your tips for food preparation methods that might make the rest of us go "*hmmm* I'm gonna have to try that." Short cuts are also welcomed here. *grin*

I have started to shake up the Jello a bit. Don't laugh. You can make jigglers, but if you add carbonated soda water in place of the cold water it tastes almost fizzy...or you can use juice in place of the cold water. I used Blueberry and Pomegranate in Strawberry Jello. Yummy. I used to use half the sugar when I made it, but now all the boxes are either pre-sugared, or they are made with Aspartame. I also like to precut my entire pan into small squares, so that when they are served they remain cute and neat. The kids love the bite sized pieces, and you can always make it into dessert by adding a little whipped cream.

Tip:
When you need chopped onion for a dish, rather than just cut half of it off, try chopping the whole onion. Use what you need, and then place the remaining portion in a ziptop baggy for easy access. You can use plastic containers, but I find they tend to absorb the odor more readily.

well i dont know about kids, but being a bachelor (i guess its the same as a kid) , i have many useful concoctions in my arsenal. tater tot casserole,
put in layers,(cook all tots a little bit before) tots at bottom, then browned ground beef, then cheese (any), then more tots, or most anything really, then meat, then tots on top, then you can put cheese on top oven at 375 (cook long enough to finish tots and mix flavas, have no idea how long i just guesstimate), and really you can put all kinds of stuff in it, it has potential for greatness, olives, onions, different meats, cheeses, bell peppers, hot peppers, all good stuff...and delicious

Tip: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before preparing foods to avoid spreading contagions.
Some people may need to use soap for their mouths as well to get rid of the foulness there. :glare:

I like to buy a cooked chicken at the grocery store. The baked whole chicken. Can of ranch style jalapeno beans. Pull some chicken off, heat the beans in a pot and shred some cheese and roll in a tortilla. The best burrito ever.
Or call the neighbor and ask if she has any leftovers. That woman always cooks for an army and she lives alone. Great cook. Much love for you Denetta, thx for the casserole day b4 yesterday.
