all you need to do is just log in as a admin and then change her password. you should always have an admin if you have password protected accounts on your pc.

You ought to be able to log in as an administrator to delete the password...

Try using Admin or administrator (might meed to capitalise the first letter) as the user name and the same thing (or even nothing at all) as the password.

Good luck, and tell her to write the damn thing down somewhere safe!

ask for the password hint, get her to put in her passwords for everything else and see if one works.

Found this in another thread...

If you have problems remembering the password for any of the accounts with admin rights... don't stress off of it too much.

There is an easy way to reset the passwords of any of the current accounts on your system, but you will need access to CD burner.

Just download this file (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/cd070409.zip).

It's a zipped ISO file of an easy to use bootable linux disk.
It works like a charm for resetting passwords in win2k, xp, & vista.

For more info on this... check out this site (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/).

(so just how secure is windows again?)

Can you boot into 'safe' mode? Just keep hitting F8 during startup.

tony if you cant solve it, get your XP disc and boot the pc from boot from disc in the BIOS settings. then just start over. but thats a last resort.

If you boot into safe mode, you should be able to log in as administrator (Password will probably be blank or the same as the username). You'll then be able to delete the password from your daughters account.

That's if she didn't already delete the Administrator account...

maxpg
15th September 2007, 10:19 AM
you cant delete the admin

Grendel

Then booting to safe mode is the answer! From there he will be able to log into the Administrator account (IF he can remember the password) and then he can delete the problem.

i imagine you have WinXP

go to the admin of the computer, go to control panel, click Administrative Tools, and under that select "Computer Management" a new window will pop up.

From there click Local Users and Groups, select that and on the right hand side of the window will be a Users folder and a Groups folder, click Users.

From there your daughters (computer) name should be there and simply right-click her name, and select "Set Password" a window will pop-up asking you if you really wanna do this, etc, select okay. From there just type in the new password (or just hit ok for no password

you must have missed the part where they said they only have one account and they can't get into the machine. What you wrote isn't going to help if he can't get access to the desktop of a user. If you can't get in using some sort of admin account there isn't alot you can do. You can either reinstall (and set up an admin account this time) or use a tool to get into the machine. If you can burn a CD somewhere else use the link that Grendel put up. Its a way to crack the admin so you can get in and reset passwords. I've used it and it does work.
