What's the best wireless router for a reasonable price?
Is there really much difference between them?
What considerations are necessary when purchasing one?
Thank you in advance for your input and advice.

If you look around you can find them for under $100 bucks.. I would stick to either a netgear, d-link or linksys. The biggest consideration is to make sure your cards and the router are the same kind. There are a few different types of wireless, G, B, N..If the laptop or card is new most likely its a G so make sure you get a G router so you can get the faster speeds.

yah, get some netgear one. you also might wanna ask your internet provider, lots of them are using integrated wireless router / modem combos.

the megabits per second are a crucial factor as well because that is the transfer rate of your radio signal. i'd recomend one at least be capable of 54Mbps if you hope to watch streamed video.

some people might argue with you on that one. I actually have a Belkin Wireless 54G Access Point that I'm using and I've had no problems with it but when it comes to full blown routers I'm not sure how they compare.

Ive got a Belkin wireless router and its brilliant (will find out the actual router name for you tommorow- its late here) it works perfectly, instantly set up on my pc, dads mac connected with minimum fuss, my nintendo wii picked it up instantley as did mine and my brothers ds, laptop gets great signal wherever it is, and i even hacked into my neighbours bt homehub using it (when i say hacked it had no password) and it worked instantley.. free crap internet wahoo! mine is better ofc but i was just seeing what it could do :P
