24 sep 2007
It had been decided, after a discussion between the dopewars admins, that the following
changes will come into effect in from October the first!
Both V1 and V2 will now run with 6 rooms each, 3 medal and 3 non medal (untill the following concerns below have been settled)!
V1 will become "on a tempory basis" the main medal game and will have medals awarded accordingly!
V2 will now go through a serious BETA stage!
In the following few months, Tim|Away will run V2 as admin with a test team, working with Ritesh (treadon) to iron out the current bugs!
After the completion of the BETA stage both V1 and V2 will run with seperate medal tables till a point of time we decide that V1 is no longer viable!
As of this point please use myself as your main point of channel for dopewars issues for Version 1 and Tim|Away for Version 2!
Tim im sure will be posting here soon enough with his plan of action. Please be respectfull that he will need some time to adjust and view his settings and that he will have his own timetable and plan of action!
Thanks- The Oddthought Staff!

Finally did something smart and bring back the classic game.
All ya guys had to do was change the interface for a fresh new look and add a few features without touching the other functions.
There was no need to change the whole program anyway, it's lame and boring.
Glad it's back though... There is a point in playing again next month lol.
No more bullshit loggin in and out for each damn game.
Can use my premmie again lol.

Thank you for providing a brief summary, John.
General comments on the current state of Version 2
The launch of DopeWars D++, also referred to as V2, was most certainly precipitant. The game isn't playable at this point and V1 became unattractive without medals. It's about time for us to take it on the chin and to open our eyes. In my humble opinion, it was inevitable to reduce damage immediately as opposed to attempting to fix V2 as soon as possible whilst pretending that the world is fine. Sorting the current problems will be a big task that'll keep us busy for quite a while I'm afraid. Nonetheless, I do believe that we should keep V2 in beta stage for another month or two rather than messing things up again by rushing the launch again.
V2 has the potential to become the better game without a doubt, but it isn't ready. Rit has spent tons of time and effort on coding and designing without getting any appreciation for it -most people see a fancy navigation and an imbalanced game. It might be worth to mention that this new version is significantly more flexible than the old one which makes it easier to implement new features. Furthermore, it is lighter on system resources which you will experience in a faster and more stable gaming experience. A lot has changed on the surface, even more has changed behind the scenes. You will realise that this is a big step forwards once we've managed to rebalance V2.
I said yesterday that it's a bit like taking mum's old car away whilst giving her a Ferrari to drive to the supermarket. It won't make her happy if the Ferrari doesn't have a battery. She needs to get her food and she certainly doesn't care about the overall performance of her vehicle at this point - she just wants a car that works.
It's just a battery, isn't it? Yes, but there's nothing wrong with giving her the old car back. We'll admit that we've messed up, but she'll be happy. Meanwhile, we can use the time to add a battery and double check the lights and everything else.
I'm very happy that we could agree to bring V1 back in order to feed the hungry players. Thank you for the cooperation.
Fixing Version 2
As far as fixing V2 is concerned, I would like to mention that you shouldn't expect me to fix this game within a fortnight - I'm planning to avoid precipitating the relaunch. I don't care whether it takes two or three months to rebalance the values and settings, as long as everyone is happy with the result. Consequently, at least one round without any issues has to be played before we consider to award medals.
In order to make the game what YOU want it to be, I'll need your feedback and help. I'm open for suggestions as well as criticism. Unlike other attempts to fix everything behind the scenes so as to surprise everyone with something new, I will care about transparency. There will be a list of changes and a to-do-list. Your support is most certainly required and I would like to take the offer of the people who dedicated themselves to help.
Personally, I would aim at making the values and settings as close to V1 as possible. Like someone else already stated in a different thread, there is no need to touch a running system. The game was fine the way it was - let's refrain from messing with the old balance and just apply the v1 settings to v2. However, I will take your feedback to see what direction we want to go.
Future of V1 and V2
Most of you know that I've been a player at one point and I have to admit that v1 provides a certain nostalgia that I love way too much. The new game will be prettier, faster, maybe even easier to play. The truth is that I loved the edges of the old game - it gave it its own character, whereas V2 will be perfectly polished. I can imagine that there might be people who think alike and others who might think that I shouldn't make a big fuss about an old game - the new one will be better after all.
It's too early to decide what's going to happen with V1 at this point. On one hand it would be nice to see whether the better game will win over the other one. Will this be a fair competition or are players biased? The majority of new players are dragged to this place by a friend who's already playing the game. I believe that players play this game because of the social factor - not because it's a masterpiece of gaming experience. It's a text-based online game with its very own charm and it'll always be.
If one's friends aren't moving to V2, one might not see a need to move - even if the new version seems to be appealing. Don't forget that masses are slow and being part of a group of people slows the individual player down when it comes to accepting change. I can see how this might hinder V2 from taking off, however, it's hard to predict what's going to happen.
Even if we decide to turn V1 one off at one point, there might be the option to have special v1 games once or twice per year.
On a closing note, I'd like to thank everyone in advance for helping to improve v2 as well as to putting up with the silly admins and the inconvenience they manage to provide.
Let's make V2 fly.

Excellent.
Nice analogy, and it is indeed unfortunate that the negatives are overshadowing the good things that V2 provides so far, and that poor Rit is seeing his work go unappreciated.
How/where would you like to receive suggestions/feedback?

true :hidey: i know i for one have moaned a lot about v2 without really recognising the good points.... which i should have and i can do now
what i love about V2 - the fact that you never get: unable to recruit junkies, please try again later..... and similarly university credits can always be gained no matter how fast you try to get them (and i like that you can scroll down the page and add more rather than having to click back or click on university again) - so in summary the speed of V2 is much better.... and it is prettier. sorry for being unappreciative :$

off topic? this is an important issue and needs to be thought about. forget iceman. anyways, i like V2 but then again, i still prefer the old forum. i see no need to be so...annoying(?) about it. things are gonna change and some people arent going to like it. tuff luck. and good luck to Tim with fixing it. BUT i think a medal should still go out to V2 because some players may have been counting on the fact that there will be a medal in there and not in V1 so did not plan to play V1 (i.e. me).

hooray for Tim and Rit. I like lots of the V2 stuff, and didn't realise how much better for game admin it could be. I think if the jumps had player's NAME it might put some fun back into it, and if we return to V1 values it should be fine.
I'd like to play V1 and V2, but with seperate login pages for each, and ?no preemie (mine seems to have gone AWOL) and a wife and kids that keep taking my notepad IDK if I will manage a whole month...

2. then + the answer to total junkies
3. pockets ÷ new amount of junkies
that should work :)
